We are looking for an approximately 5-8 week commitment of 30-35 hours a week. Start and end dates can be flexible, with an early summer start preferred. There’s also an opportunity to begin compiling data for the tree survey prior to summer. Pay will be $15/hr.
The Program Assistant will mostly work directly with the UTA director, but tasks to be completed independently will also be required. The use of a personal car will be periodically necessary and work related miles will be reimbursed. The primary tasks (and estimates of how much time spent on each) will include:
1) Help advertise the Madison Canopy Project by distributing door hangers through Madison neighborhoods- 10%
2) Assist maintaining and planting trees-15%
3) Gather ash tree inventory data on 50 Madison area school campuses- 40%
4) Compile data and conduct a tree health survey of the approximately 600 trees previously planted by the UTA-35%
The ideal candidate will be familiar with general urban forestry / arboricultural principles, including: proper tree care and installation, common urban tree identification and characteristics, and inventory methods. The assistant will also be expected to represent the interests and mission of the UTA. We are looking for someone who can complete flexible work assignments, bring knowledge to UTA programs, and be curious and engaged. Moderate exertion for up to 7 hours a day will be required. There is also a potential opportunity for those interested to participate in field work as a ground person / arborist working with Urban Tree Management, a private arborist service associated with the UTA.
Applicants should email a cover letter that describes professional interests and a resume listing past experiences as attachments to email@example.com. Each document should be one-page maximum.
