Assistant Professor in Residence in Political Ecology/Environmental Sociology/Design Studies

The Department of History, Philosophy and the Social Sciences (HPSS) at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) invites applications for a one year term appointment of an Assistant Professor in Residence in Political Ecology/Design Studies starting in fall of 2017. The suitable candidate will have undergraduate teaching experience and a broad background in Political Ecology/Urban Political Ecology, Environmental Sociology/Geography/Politics. An interest in the overlapping fields of Design Studies/the sociology/geographies/politics of design and future studies/sustainable futures would be an advantage. Candidates should have a Ph.D in an appropriate field of the environmental social sciences (Geography/Sociology/Political Science/Inter-disciplinary Studies), however, late stage Ph.D candidates may be considered. Full-time faculty teach 6 courses a year at RISD; in HPSS, these are typically two seminar classes (15 students), two introductory classes (21 students) and two lecture classes (30 students).
